ProPeople, Jakarta – Rabu kemarin aku diundang menghadiri Wisuda yang ke 51 di Institut IPMI.
Aku alumni IPMI yang cukup setia, sering aku hadir di acara Wisuda.
By the way, aku juga masih mengajar di kelas BBA-Pro, untuk mata kuliah: Introduction to Management, Human Resources Management, dan lainnya.
Di setiap acara Wisuda selalu ada Key Note Speaker. Syarat untuk bisa diundang menjadi KNS di Wisuda IPMI ini panjang list-nya, tapi yang pasti satu, ia adalah seorang Leader, yang berhasil tentunya.
Di tulisanku kali ini, aku mau berbagi ringkasan sharing-nya Nico Kanter – Direktur Utama PT Aneka Tambang, Tbk. One of the best key note speaker i’ve listened to.
Sharing beliau untuk para “graduates” of BBA and MBA keren banget; aku ringkas di sini:
- Nico mengaku bahwa dia not use to lengthy speech, merasa tidak nyaman; ia lebih senang berinteraksi langsung dengan individu.
- Please celebrate, jangan keterusan stressful. Celebrate today but you have to be prepared to what’s coming next.
- Despite of the challenges, VUCA, there are promising future; menuju 2045 Golden Indonesia.
- The Government already has strategies, antara lain, Developing the Human Resources; Prioritizing industrial down-streaming to increase employment and productivity. Development of borders, outer villages. Synchronization of regulations and corruption eradication.
- The only thing that is certain is change; you have to embrace change, by being agile, adaptive and resilience. Change is never painful – what is painful actually is when we are not prepared for change. We have to anticipate change. Leaders anticipate change – Losers react to change.
- “I’m not telling you what to do; i’m in no way feel qualified to tell you what to do”. “You have demonstrated resilience, you will do things differently. You know what’s best for you”.
NK shared 3 things, 3 lessons that made me who i am today:
INTEGRITY
Combination of qualities of being honest with strong morale and ethics.
It is whole and undivided, and no conflict.
No conflict between Thoughts, Decision and Action, as i have these certain values.
Integrity is Knowing – Saying – Doing the Right Things.
My late father taught me: Do not let fear prevent you from saying and doing the right things.
In your life you come across, i.e. your boss has different thoughts – express yours with respect, in a humble way. But do not let fear prevent you from saying and doing the right things (even when it has a short-term impact to you).
Integrity is also Walk the Talk; Saying and Doing the Right Thing.
You do not need to impress others; but you do it because it’s the right things to do!
We have to uphold integrity ! It’s crucial ! Because integrity is the foundation of trust.
If you keep on saying and doing the right things, you’ll have the brand of integrity. It makes your life easier and positive in building relationship and collaboration.
Always try for EXCELLENCE
Excellence is gradual results of always to do better. It is not an accident nor coincidence.
It is doing it with struggle, strong will, sincere efforts that you will achieve excellence.
Excellence is not to be the best, it is about *being the best that you can be. Being better than i was yesterday!
“I want my presence not only being noticed, but i want my absence felt”.
Always strive for excellence, it will be a fulfillment.
“I like winning”. Not settle for less.
Demonstrate Vulnerability and Humility.
To be grateful not prideful.
Leaders yang humble create atmosphere of openness to the team; you will be more respected. To not afraid to say i don’t know.
Vulnerability demonstrate truth and courage, not weakness.
Your people will dare to express concerns and ideas! Create cohesive team, where innovation and creativity encouraged, they are not afraid, also not afraid to make mistake.
You all have the potential to be successful but how many of you have the guts to fail?
To achieve one’s goals, one must apply:
- Discipline
- Hard work
- Struggle
- Consistent
Without trying to judge or stereo-typing, NK reminds the young Z generation – the tendencies to like to do things fast and instant, and short on struggle and resilience.
Failure is steps for correction.
When you fail, don’t give up ! Get up, try again, and again.
God wants to make us a better person!
Di akhir key note speech-nya, Nico Kanter said:
“Don’t forget to celebrate and be proud; stay hungry, never settle for anything but your best”!
“Today is the beginning of the rest of your life”.
“Learn from mistake and grow from it and pray”.
Do not aspire only to make a living – But aspire to make a difference!
